Roush & Associates: A Focused Strategic Plan Leads to Success in the Northeast Senior Care Market
The Roush & Associates story is a simple but compelling one. We formed in 1997 as a small consulting firm...faithfully but creatively followed a focused business plan...and in nine years have become a profitable, mid-sized, regional leader in the senior care field.
By specializing in the long-term/senior care niche of healthcare, we have been able to deliver to our clients the best outcomes in quality of care and financial performance in their skilled nursing centers, assisted living residences, and retirement communities.
The Current Long-Term Care Environment
The healthcare marketplace today is complex, ever-changing, and not for the faint of heart. The current situation:
- National nursing-home companies have been operating in excess of reimbursement, causing many to fail or be at risk of failing
- Assisted living companies grew too rapidly, financially straining their resources through overbuilding
- The investment market has tightened credit in response to these and other industry trends
As a result, new nursing home construction has been at a virtual standstill and assisted living projects are on the decline.
At Roush & Associates, we see the opportunity in these challenges. We owe our success to our ability to identify and maximize opportunistic situations on behalf of our investment partners, residents, employees and the company.
What makes us uniquely poised to do this? Beyond our core vision and expertise, we have the benefit of a unique vantage point: As we consult with a diverse group of clients, many of whose facilities are failing, we closely observe their successes—and more importantly—their mistakes.
Size Matters
In analyzing the marketplace, we realize that the majority of our competitors are either
- Quite small, and therefore lacking the necessary infrastructure to excel
- Fairly large, but lacking positive track records
We have concluded that the healthcare center and senior housing field is best served by our regional, hands-on approach. Our staffing is large enough to marshal the appropriate depth and breadth of resources, but not so large that we sacrifice our personal, on-site management presence. We started in Massachusetts, expanded to New England, and growing further in the Northeast. We are confident the niche we have defined ensures our future success.
